Monetizing your knowledge is one of the best plans you can have. It only requires spreading your word through some platform.
Some do it on social media, some with a community that escapes the algorithm. Today, we’re going to dive deep into two services that match the last option.
We’ll take a look at Teachable and Mighty Networks, their key features and pricing, and decide which one is a better choice!
Teachable vs Mighty Networks
Teachable
Teachable is an online course platform that has existed since 2015. Its predecessor, Fedora, a place to sell online courses, was born in 2013 when a recent graduate of UC Berkeley decided to build his course platform.
Teachable is currently home to more than 100,000 creators that use it either to sell courses, coaching sessions or digital downloads.
Mighty Networks
Mighty Networks is a platform centered around building community and memberships. It was launched back in 2017 and it is full of amazing success stories. Like LO sister, a project that sold 1,100 tickets for a conference using Mighty’s powerful features.
They have a Creators Calculator that shows you how much you can earn monthly based on your number of members and whether you choose Mighty Networks or other community platforms.

Key features
What can you offer your users?
Teachable and Mighty Networks both let you build and sell online courses. That’s what they have in common.
Then, they have different approaches. Teachable focuses on what you can sell. With it, you can sell courses, coaching sessions and digital downloads. You can upload any type of file to sell: e-books, videos, etc. And even launch your own affiliate program!
Mighty Networks, on the other hand, is more about building community so you can move past the algorithm. Once you do it, you can sell your courses and memberships. Above, there’s an example of a community.
So the main difference here might be live-streaming. Mighty Networks has its own live-streaming services, while Teachable doesn’t. You can still livestream, but you’ll need to connect with a third party.
Teachable, however, includes coaching sessions on all its plans, something that Mighty Networks lacks. It also comes with built-in video conferencing functionality, which means you don’t need to rely on Zoom or any other external tool to teach your students.
Builder
Teachable has a drag-and-drop builder that allows you to easily create websites where you can showcase your products.
It has page revisions, so every time you save, a revision is created and you can take a step back if you don’t like where you’re heading. If you’ve ever done something similar with your Google Docs, you know how useful it is.
It also has Unsplash integrated into its page builder, so you can access its whole library and use it on your online course.
If you don’t have the time to build your sales page, you can also get in touch with Teachable and let them build one for you. The process typically takes a week.
Mighty Networks’ story is completely different.
They have an AI powered by GPT-4 that handles the process of creating your community. The moment you sign up, this co-host will start working, coming up with a name for your community and a description.
It will also use OpenAI technology to generate a background image for your landing page that you can change at any time.
The closest to this feature in Teachable is a course curriculum generator that creates outlines for your digital products within seconds.
Automation
Since both platforms integrate with Zapier, you can access different automations, for example, engagement triggers which allow you to automate responses to a learner’s specific action.
Once set, Mighty Networks or Teachable can open a live chat each time someone fails a quiz. Or you can automatically send a specific email as soon as someone completes a lesson.
Selling
Both Mighty Networks and Teachable let you offer free courses to generate leads, as well as sell courses and membership subscription plans. They also let you connect your account with PayPal and Stripe to receive payments.
Teachable, however, also has two native payment getaways. One is teachable:pay, which automatically handles US sales taxes, EU VAT tax and other digital content taxes outside of US and EU. The other is called Monthly Payment Gateway.
Schools that are unable to set up teachable:pay are eligible for the Monthly Payment Gateway.
Apps
Teachable has an app available on the App Store for learners to read offline. That’s it.
Mighty Networks, on the other hand, have both iOS and Android apps and you can launch your own branded apps if you upgrade to Mighty Pro.
Integrations
Teachable integrates with Zapier, ConvertKit, Google Analytics, Segment and more. They also have a public API which makes integrating apps a lot easier.
Mighty Networks doesn’t have a public API, making it more difficult to integrate with third parties.
Email marketing
Teachable and Mighty Networks directly integrate with ConvertKit. Thanks to its API Key, Teachable also lets you integrate with other popular email service providers like Mailchimp and MailerLite.
Analytics
On Teachable, on the Pro plan and up, schools can access course reporting tools. They provide detailed information about students’ lecture completion rates, quiz scores, video stats and student leaderboards.
You can also filter course reports by user tags. This allows you to segment your reports by specific cohorts or groups of students.
Similarly, on Mighty Networks, analytics are only available on its business and upper plans.
Mighty Insights gives you access to data across multiple dashboards to support more aspects of your business.
Collaboration tools
Teachable and Mighty Networks have team features on their paid plans. With Teachable, you can add 5 admins and authors seats on its Pro plan and customize user roles on its Pro+ plan.
Mighty Networks gives you unlimited hosts and moderators, so you can add as many as you need. Hosts will have full access to all settings and moderators only to a more limited set of features.
Languages
This is the aspect where Teachable and Mighty Networks are insufficient since their defaults are available only in English.
Teachable, however, does let you translate text fields. Mighty Networks also has customization available for these cases, but the changes cannot be applied to every field, leaving you, sadly, with a rather weird mix of languages.
Support and resources
Mighty Networks has a Resource Center, a Help Center and a Community built using Mighty Networks. They also upload videos pretty regularly to their YouTube channel.
Teachable, on the other hand, has workbooks, checklists, a blog and a podcast. They also have a Community, but it’s not for free. You’ll have to pay a membership to be a part of it.
Pricing
Teachable has a free plan that lets you have unlimited students, but users have to pay $1 + 10% of transaction fees
Then it has three premium plans:
- Basic: $59 per month. The transactional fee is 5% and it comes with coupons and integrated email marketing.
- Pro: $159 per month. No transactional fees, a public API and affiliate marketing features.
- Pro+: $249 per month. Custom user roles and offer up to 200 courses.
- Business: $499 per month. Includes 20 admin users, advanced theme customization and migration services.
Mighty Networks, on the other hand, has a 14-day free trial and three paid plans:
- Community: $39 per month. Get a Community with native live streaming and video, as well as paid memberships.
- Business: $119 per month. Includes analytics and member data, as well as Zapier APIs and Workflows.
